Dear Members of 1642:
The future is difficult to predict, but the best stance to take is to allow voices to be heard. It is time to continue to work as a strong community. Let us work to be united as Local 1642, as well as the smaller breakout groups that we are. Woodstock Council of Teachers being the largest of the group needs to consider the responsibility of our membership. Part of that responsibility is to make our neighbors aware of all it is that we do. There are many misconceptions on the roles of a teacher, bus driver, support-staff across the country. We need to have the conversations that allow all to understand what it is that we do and how we affect students, which in the end does impact our community and our economy. This goes along with having the conversations about policies and legislations that are created by those that are not aware of our specific obstacles and challenges. Making more people aware by sparking a simple and neighborly conversation could be the small steps that bring about positive change as well as understanding.
On another note, the Woodstock Council of Teachers are now accepting nominations for both President and Second Vice President. Information about the candidates will go out to all members in early April. This election will take place on May 17th.
